Trouvailles londoniennes

Good finds in London
London is an expensive city and Mr LPC is far from being a shopaholic , so I did not buy many things.
On the other hand, we always go grocery shopping before coming back. Scones, muffins and crumpets went directly into the freezer when we came back. You know the fable, get ready for "when north wind blew".
We also brought back shortbread, little sugar stars to decorate future cakes, Tunnock's Teacakes.
Of those, nobody can speak better than Nigel Slater in Eating for England.
One of the downsides of a distinctly middle class childhood, and there were many others, was that we got Cadbury's Mini Rolls instead of Tunnock's Teacakes. [...] Good as the Mini Roll was with its delicate chocolate and its swirl of cream, it wasn't half as much fun as a Tunnock's Teacake. Matters were only made worse by the fact that my best friend Warrell always seemed to have one on his tea plate [...]
It is a delicate operation to unwrap a Tunnock's Teacake without cracking the fine dome of petal-thin chocolate that covers the marshmallow centre. [...]
Just seeing the box, and gazing through the plastic at its fragile cargo, takes me back to the lunchboxes of my childhood - or more accurately, to other kids' lunchboxes. It is amazing the amount of currency a schoolboy was expected to part with for a classmate's Tunnock, but I always did. I seem to remember one once cost me a whole packet of Refreshers.
Mr Kipling's Battenbergs because England is the country of biscuits just like France is the country of cheeses. Scottish oatcakes, a plane-shaped cookie-cutter found in a beautiful cake shop in Oxford (we also went to Oxford, an hour away by train from Paddington Station). Marmelade, Turkish Delight, raspberries viennese biscuits, baking soda.
Cranberry green tea and black caramel tea found at The Tea House, 15 Neal Street at Covent Garden. The guidebook said they had rum and summer pudding tea. They didn't, what a disappointment!
Spotted Dicks, already gone, delicious with hot custard.
Little things for Christmas : mini gingerbread men and cards (Paperchase).
Stamps from Rubber Stamps. A keyring, a sandwich tray found in a charity shop in Oxford.
Books, bookmarks, cards with crowns to cut out (on the counter at Banqueting House). Let me show you my burlap sacks found near Columbia Road, resting on chairs and the coffee table in the sitting room for the moment.
Bonne journée!
